Non motivational Satdee.

Top of the morning to you. Yes, it's early is it not?
Five to seven by my watch. An unnatural hour to be floating about. But needs must and I must work for a few hours. Gah.
Although it shames me to write it, I did exactly NO exercise this week. I didn't go to the gym once, I didn't run, no weights were lifted, no kicking or punching was enjoyed. Truthfully I am convinced I can almost feel myself going soft. I think I feel...squidgy. I put on the best part of a kilo. A buttery toast inspired kilo.
I have no real excuse. On monday I was knackered, Tuesday I was tired, and wednesday I got a bit swamped with work and remained that way until, well, today.
I need to start training properly for the marathon soon, and I want to get stronger and leaner. Taking a week off is not exactly the way to go about it now is it?
No doubt this will be the week everyone else rocked the workouts and trained hot and heavy, compounding my guilty squidgy shame further. To that all I an say is next week is a new week and the blasted thing I am currently working on will be done. I won't have work to hide behind then.

Good morning to you FMC!
I was up by seven this morning too - shock - due to the fact I collapsed into bed extremely early last night. I didn't even have time to get properly drunk, I had a couple of glasses and then fell into a coma.
I hate it when work stress messes with your system.
But on the other hand it's kind of nice to have the whole loooong Saturday ahead of me now.
I am also guilty of zero exercise this week (apart from carrying heavy camera equipment around on film shoots) and I can't wait to go out for a long brisk walk. A cup of green tea and I'm off!
Hope you get your work done quickly and can enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Over & out from Edinburgh :)

It is nice isn't it when you're not totally banjaxed on a Saturday and you must e having some good weather-raining here. Enjoy your day. Green tea is the devil's smegma.

I was wide awake at 7am here too. What's going on with that? I went to bed with a nice buzz too: 3 Margaritas and 2 Guinnesses... I should be under the covers, weeping quietly. But no - 6.5 hours of sleep and I awoke with an audible "PING" and just had to get up.

A good week work out wise. Missed Wednesday because I was up late Tuesday night watching my Celtics win the NBA Championship for the first time in 20 something years. HURRAY! But then back at it Thursday, Friday and today. Usual stuff - cardio, weights, lunges, yoga stretches, etc. Just finished a light cardio work out - it's too beautiful outside and I must garden. So it's off to the shower, then to the garden store, then home for planting, weeding, sunning myself and various household chores.

And then to the Mad Raven Pub for repetitive lifting of 16 oz. pints. I call them Guinness curls and my biceps really like them.

I'm mildly jealous of your plans, I wouldn't mind a few hours pottering about the garden myself, but it's wet and soggy here today.

I woke at 8 with no hangover, yay!
Other than walking the pooches, I've had no exercise and have indulged in too much late night eating which is the worst thing you can do. Bloat, thy name is Medbh.

Blogger fatmammycat said...

Indeed medbh, huzzah for hangover free mornings. I feel your twitch on the bloating too, I'm normally so active that a non active week like this completely throw me for a loop. On Monday I'm going to spend at least two hours sweating happily, clanking iron and making veiny poo faces.

Still no running here... The IT band problem has gone away again, but I started teaching a course on Wednesday that'll run through the end of July. I have been/expect to be so wrapped up in it that my exercise is limited to biking about 25 miles a week (up and back to campus), a slew of push-ups 3x/week (my new harebrained scheme is this 100-pushups-in-six-weeks program), and I'm aiming for an hour of yoga 3x/week. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in a run here or there. After being on a training routine for so many months, I feel like a sloth--I'm just trying to remember that the minimum of regular exercise I do now is about 500% more than what I used to do.

Still laughing at Andraste's audible PING!

Last Saturday - good workout. Pushed myself hard and sustained a tomato red, sweaty Betty face for a full hour following. Felt brilliant.

Sunday, father's day. All day at the beach with the family, during which I managed a brisk 20 minute run on my own.

Monday - surprise party for friend - all day cooking and sampling and then all evening eating and drinking. 7 stone gained.

Tuesday - off on holidays.

Some long walks. Some longer walks. Some very, very long walks at 7000ft above sea level involving piggy-backed children. Exhausted. Very hot temperatures only able to be counteracted with lots of cooling Californian wine with dinner. Bed by 9pm every night to ensure 5.30 am start in the cool part of the day. Thighs must have each have gained 23 inches of pure muscle this week. At least! Back knackered from carrying kids and hovering them over National Park wilderness toilets.

Today, home again - but no gym because of aching back. Tonight - CD release party catered for in the the yummiest restaurant in town. Plan on indulging fully. Fully!

Have a great weekend, all o' yiz!

Don't sweat the sweat-free week by the way. Most Saturdays I am in awe at what you've achieved exercisewardly each week. I'm lucky if I do half what you do. Truth be told a third of it is more likely. A week off from all that is nothing - it'd take much much longer to lose your level of fitness.

a decent start to the summer for me - spent sunday putting in the garden (by hand - no rototiller, boo!), tuesday i went on my first mostly-downhill mountain bike ride - there's were a lot of 'eeeeee's', 'oh shiiiiiiiits', and laughing.
managed to bike commute to campus 4 days, putting me at 60 miles. also squeaked out a 400 m jog with the dog, and was slightly embarassed that i couldn't do more. a c'est l'vie!

i did however undo all my good by scarfing down an entire pizza and 2 pieces of chocolate cake yesterday. oh, and some breadsticks.

i was overly productive at work this week, so i plan on fitting in a more regimented work-out schedule next.

Welcome back Sam, sounds like you had a great time.
Grims, make sure your foot is better before you run. No point in undoing your mending.

That's a good week Daisy Mae, I can imagine down hill mountain biking is VERY nerve wracking.

I betcha you'll come back from that week stronger than ever FMC. That's exactly what happens. By the end of next week you'll be absolutley flying, any 10k's around you can run??? It's always after a rest week (after hard training of course) that you come back stronger than ever. That's why many athletes have one easy week every four.
I've had a smashing week, swimming went great (in the ACTUAL sea!!), tonnes of cycling and even with no rest I might just have qualified to wear a certain green vest on some certain European hills so am happy. :-)
I'm knackered no so my swim times were down today but who cares, it's all good! :-)

Are you following a marathon programme FMC? I know it sounds obvious but it's a good idea to write out your training and how you felt. Also I find if I have a plan beforehand I can factor it into a busy week.

i haven't really started training for it yet Aisling, I'll probably start in earnest in July. Then I'll be racking up tee milage and pondering my strategy.
Well done on the sea swimming and especially super mega hella well done on the jersey!
