motivation for fatcats and possibly for chumlies of Fatcats!

First and foremost, the swans at Portobello are the most vicious shower of thugs and hooligans I have ever had the misfortune to run near. There's too many of them now and they think they own the joint. The next time one that hisses at me, or flaps at me or GIVES CHASE I will turn and axe kick it into an early grave. Fuckers! We hates them, oh yes.

So, how are we doing this week? I've had a relatively lazy one and I admit I'm feeling sluggish, but I went out every night bar thursday and last night for a spin around the block covering a 7k loop, I bopped 12 k earlier, running the swan gauntlet to do so. And tomorrow I am taking Country Gay's dog on a hike, so I'm hoping that goes some way to combating the lazy arsed way I been handling this week.
However, I did hit the gym hard on Tuesday.
Observe.

Tuesday- . Walked to gym and back 8k,

Bench press 10x 4 x27 K.

Push press 10 x4 x 25 k. Last few reps weren't quite so hot. But I muddled through, really when I take a few weeks off I seem to lose it very easily.

10x4 sets pull ups, on grav at 30k, then 10 more at 25, arms were WRECKED after that.

But then, 10x 2x 15k tricep extensions, bleaugh, small movement but painful.

Over to bike, 25 minutes at level 5, hate the bikes at my gym, they're those awful ones you sit into and watch tv, boring as hell. I was yawning like a loon on mine, and that's not the way I want to feel while in the exercising.

Shower, home for baked potato steamed broccoli and pork chop, yeah!

Another thing, I've altered my diet slightly this week. I don't eat enough fruit, mostly because I just don't like it a whole lot. But I am now making a concerted effort to improve. So plums, bananas, and oranges have all been added. God they're boring though.

This week had a good start and then I fizzled out on the couch like a tub of goo. I suck.

I have also added fruit to my diet because I wasn't getting any. I put berries in the yogurt and try to eat an apple. You can't get any edible bannanas here for some reason.

Due to illnesses, injuries and overseas courses, this week saw me teach spin five times in the space of 24 hours while also commuting 20k on the bike three times within the same time frame.

I had to have five full fat milk White Russians last night to prevent myself from feeling like some kind of health nut.

Middling week here. Lots of long walks. On one a woodpecker fell to the ground stone dead right across the road from me. It think it must have touched wires on a pylon or something. Hoping it's not A Sign.

Did a few sets of 10x on the stairs too. I eat loads of fruit but am bad about forgetting lunch sometimes so I'm all wan and tired and headachey by about 4 o'clock with great dark circles under my eyes. Then I have tea and biscuits.

I guess that's more poor to middling, n'est ce-pas?

Had a busy week on campus and am relying on my feet and my bike to get me there and back (5mi round trip), so on top of three treadmill days I got in an extra couple hours of walking and biking.
Last weekend I did 5k in 42 minutes, this week I did it twice in just over 36 minutes. And yet somehow my heart continues to beat and my legs continue to bear my weight.

This diet thing sucks the big one, I really wish white russians and rum were body gold. I also wish salt n' vinegar crisps slotted into 'good fats'.
The coming week I do swear to not eat walkers crisps and avoid mid week boarding school alcohol. I swear it I say. Also I will run more, swans be damned.
But for now I am having a rum and coke, but it is a diet coke. So there.

hey all... i guess before sharing my workout, i'll mention what part of my motivation is.... i'm training to ride with the alive campaign (http://www.alivecampaign.org/) for part of their ride this summer as i've lost several friends/family to suicide and i want to feel like i'm doing something.

my other motivation is getting back down to a size 6... and running marathons again.

ANYWAY!

monday: worked on couch to 5k (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml) and i'm currently on week 5. the dog loves to take these runs with me, especially now that there's snow on the ground.

tues: found this site (http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=133) and have started using it religiously. i'm working on the get in, get out plan. today was workout 1.
also cycled 1 mi. (i do commute to and from school by bike-6 miles round trip-, but don't count those as working out).

wed: more couch to 5k.

thurs: missed the workout due to a snowstorm that kept me from getting to the gym

fri: also missed my workout because i was feeling lazy.

sat: couch to 5k - my first 20 min, non-stop run in YEARS. it felt great, minus the dry air wreaking havoc on my lungs. also did workout 2 for lifting, and made it 4 miles on the bike.

FMC - have you thought at all of moving this to a separate blog where all of us are contributors? just a thought... i don't know if anyone else would be interested, either.

Come on down Cate, we all float here!

Daisy Mae, I hadn't given it a whole lot more thought than just a Satdee club where we could post what the hell we'd done that week., but I superhellamega like the idea of a co-contribution club. Leave it with me for a day or two and I'll see what I can come up with. Also nice week, well done.

Hi FMC. Because I joined the gym I made the most of it and went 5 days. Got a programme from one of the staff and am following it; mostly abs and arms but some leg stuff too!! Lovin' it....
Running as much as ever! I've entered the Rotterdam marathon (Paris was full) so will start a serious programme by the end of the month.

Cheers! Hope all is well with you!

Okay, got to the pool three times - two lots of twenty lengths and one lot of thirty. It was pointed out that my back was possibly feeling like a combine harvester had driven over it because i was going from crawling to sprinting and cutting out the middle man. Hence I became a bit more gentle in my approach. But at one session I started racing a mate and rediscovered my inner competitive bitch. It was SUCH good fun. However being forced to stop swimming mid length because you are laughing so much is not a great look.

And was filming on a major cycle race yesterday - can I claim that as any form of exercise?

Your exercise routine sounds like torture, and I'm a three-times-a-week-gym-attending man.

Got a sprog on the way, so in a couple of months all the midnight feeding and assorted scurrying around will be keeping me fit, no doubt.

For a group blog / training log, mapmyrun.com has training logs and you can set up groups as well. It's pretty good, also excellent for mapping runs, does exactly like it says on the tin really.

Well done everyone, I am so utterly jealous of you good swimmers.
Gerry thank you for that, I must go take a look after breakfast.

Foot Eater, that is really wonderful news. Congratulations! And Eeek.

I did my three days of strength training this week. My fifth week and I'm definitely seeing some results. Only a few pounds lost, but the chub is definitely disappearing. I too should lay off the alcohol (the source of the aforementioned chub), but it's just so damn yummy!

also regarding a group blog/training log, we could also set up something as simple as blogspot, with multiple contributors....

Tuesday and Wednesday I hit the elliptical for a half hour before work. Also a couple of lunges with weights, some squats, but only a few because of lack of time.

Walk about a mile and a half every day from the parking lot to work and back, so I guess that counts for something.

Sadly, that's it.

Better this coming week, I'm sure.

Congratulations, Footie!

If anyone is slightly interested, comfy seats at the bar in Peploes on the green is a really most excellent way to spend a damp and windy Sunday afternoon.
Also I bought new and very high silver shoes. Le sigh, shoe buying really is the most blissed out thing a gal can do.

I make fruit smoothies every morning from breakfast. I just whiz fruit with water - as the partner doesn't like anything gloopy (so no bananas, yoghurt etc.). I use a different mix every day if I can, plums, passion fruit, clementines, papaya, mango, grapes etc. Usually about four different fruits. It's an easy way to get your hit of Vitamin C. This is a bad time of year for diet/health as the Christmas gatherings have already started and it is impossible not to have a drink or three!
